This full size chicken prop will get their attention.  Actor holds under arm.  Using the pointer and middle finger actor flaps wing which makes it appear to be alive and struggling to get away.  Using the left hand the actor "decapitates" the chicken and head comes off.  Attach head back on and you ready to scare again.  
Head takes less than 2 seconds to attach back on the body.
